Arequipa

From Cusco we took the night bus (Cruz del sur) to Arequipa. Arequipa is surrounded by volcanoes and is such a beautiful city! Plaza de armas is stunning, with beautiful flowers and a big cathedral. And also in the rest of the city their are lots of really nice buildings.

On our first day we strolled around the city and apart from the beautiful buildings we also discovered some great restaurants: Crepisimo (where you can eat delicious pancakes & salads) and Pasta Canteen, (where you can design your own pasta dishes). We stayed two nights at ‘Hostal los balcones de moral y santa Catalina’, really good price for a clean and spacious room in the middle of the center!

When we returned from our trip to the Colca Valley we watched the soccer game Peru vs New Zealand for the world championship qualification. Unfortunately they played 0-0; Wednesday 15 November they’ll play the return!

Our last morning before our flight to Lima, we visited Monasterio Santa Catalina. A beautiful monastery dating from 1579.

We definitely liked Arequipa better than Cusco; the vibe is way more relaxed, the climate is nicer and although the food in Cusco was good, in Arequipa it’s even better!
